A síndrome de Asperger ou o transtorno de Asperger ou ainda Desordem de Asperger (código CIE-9-MC: 299.8) é uma síndrome que está relacionada com o autismo, diferenciando-se deste por não comportar nenhum "atraso ou retardo global no desenvolvimento cognitivo ou de linguagem".
O termo "síndrome de Asperger" foi utilizado pela primeira vez por Lorna Wing em 1981 num jornal médico, que pretendia desta forma honrar Hans Asperger, um psiquiatra e pediatra austríaco cujo trabalho não foi reconhecido internacionalmente até a década de 1990. A síndrome foi reconhecida pela primeira vez no Manual Diagnóstico e Estatístico de Transtornos Mentais, na sua quarta edição, em 1994 (DSM-IV).
Alguns sintomas de Asperger são: dificuldade de interação social e empatia; interpretação muito literal da linguagem; dificuldade com mudanças, perseveração em comportamentos estereotipados. No entanto, pode isso ser conciliado com desenvolvimento cognitivo normal ou alto. É mais comum no sexo masculino. Quando adultos, podem seguir uma profissão, casar-se, e até mesmo, há indivíduos com Asperger que se tornam professores universitários.

A Síndrome de Savant é considerada um distúrbio psíquico com o qual a pessoa possui uma grande habilidade intelectual aliada a um déficit de inteligência. As habilidades savants são sempre ligadas a uma memória extraordinária, porém com pouca compreensão do que está sendo descrito.

Daniel Paul Tammet (n. Londres, 31 de Janeiro de 1979), é um inglês que sofre da Síndrome de Savant.
Daniel Tammet tem capacidades especiais na memorização de números e grande facilidade na aprendizagem de línguas.
Foi capaz de dizer 22.514 dígitos de Pi e de aprender a falar islandês numa semana. Actualmente fala sete línguas diferentes.
Escreveu o livro "Born on a Blue Day" (Nascido num dia azul).

Kim Peek memorizou mais de 12.000 livros. Descreve os números de rodovias que vão para qualquer cidade, vilarejo ou condado dos EUA, códigos DDD, CEPs, estações de TV e as redes telefônicas que os servem. Identifica o dia da semana de uma determinada data em segundos. É mentalmente incapacitado, depende de seu pai para suas necessidades básicas. Peek serviu de inspiração para o personagem Raymond Babbit, que Dustin Hoffman representou em 1988 no filme Rain man.

Matt was a precocious infant who walked early and learned to read by age 18 months.[3] He was diagnosed with pervasive developmental disorder, a form of autism, at age three.[4] Matt did not like any noises or music during his early childhood[5] At age six, Matt taught himself to read piano music.[6] He studied classical piano for less than a year before discovering jazz, which became his main focus. He began studying at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts in the fall of 1999. He continued his classical studies as well. He and his younger sister, Rebecca,[6] are both home schooled.[2] Among Matt's talents are hyperlexia[1]and perfect pitch.[7] Coupled with his extremely high intelligence, these abilities have allowed him to achieve other distinctions as well, such as winning a statewide geography bee.

Wiggins was born on the Wiley Edward Jones Plantation in Harris County, Georgia. Born blind, he was sold in 1850 along with his slave parents, Charity and Mingo Wiggins, to Columbus, Georgia lawyer, Colonel James N. Bethune.[1] The new owner gave the boy the name Thomas Greene Bethune or Thomas Wiggins Bethune (according to different sources).
Because he could not work, Blind Tom wandered around the Bethune plantation often and became interested in the music played by Bethune's daughters. He is reported to have played tunes he had heard at the age of four, before he had learned to speak. At the age of five, he composed a tune, The Rain Storm. Bethune hired professional musicians to play for the boy, and Tom could perfectly reproduce the music he had heard. Although Tom's vocabulary was only about 100 words, eventually he learned perhaps 7,000 pieces of music, mainly from classical composers.

[center]Derek Paravicini[/center]
Derek Paravicini (b. 26 July 1979) is a blind English autistic savant and a musical prodigy. He lives in Surrey, England.
Paravicini was born premature. He has a severe learning disability and, as a result of oxygen therapy, blindness. However, he also has absolute pitch and can play a piece of music after hearing it once. He began to play the piano at the age of two. When he was studying at Linden Lodge School for the Blind in London, his teacher encouraged him and arranged first weekly and then daily lessons.[1][2]
In 1989, at the age of nine, Paravicini had his first major public concert at the Barbican Hall in London when he played with Royal Philharmonic Pops Orchestra. More opportunities followed, including playing at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club
