O jogo tem vários finais, mas na primeira vez que se zera, só tem dois.

No chefe final, se você apenas atacar ele até morrer, vai aparecer o final ruim, sem graça.

Para ver o verdadeiro final, você tem que pegar o Element Chrono Cross, equipar em Serge e, na luta final, fazer uma sequência de golpes de cores certa e jogar o Element. Aí abre o verdadeiro final.

Xenogears and Philosophy

Delving into a book on philosophy I found the following quote from the Greek philosopher Xenophanes who lived in about 470 B.C: "Man makes God's in his own image". As far as we know Xenophanes was one of the first thinkers to challenge the existence of a God or God's and seek explanations for such things as sickness, and why the plants grow, in the natural world.

I am fairly sure that Xenophanes is significant - I could also be just forming random associations from philosophy to the best game ever, I could even be so obsessed with Xenogears that I see it everywhere! But back to the quote:

Deus is not God - that is obvious. God is supposed to have infinite power and Deus clearly does not - though Deus is extremely powerful it is not infinitely powerful - otherwise it would not have allowed itself to undergo transport in the Eldridge, crashing into the sea, or require the help of human components to bring it back to life. If Deus were omnipotent (all powerful) there would also be absolutely no chance of anyone defeating it - or (as all powerful implies power over time) having defeated it in the past at all. Deus also lacks others of God's attributes - omniscience (all knowledge) for one thing - but most damning of all to the argument that Deus is really God is Deus's nature. God is supposed to be a perfect good existence - as Deus clearly is not!! Deus might however, be said to be an approximation of a God made by humanity - a God constructed with the imperfections and vices of it's creators - a God in man's own image. Deus is self-serving, and generally uncaring about other beings welfare blindly carrying out complex acts of destruction because they are parts of its programme, which was set in motion millennia before. If the creators were thinking of Xenophanes, they may have given this quote a more literal meaning - after Deus is definitely a constructed entity and not a natural force. Perhaps the name "Xenogears" as the gear that opposes Deus plan is a reference to Xenophanes's - the first known atheist.

By the fact that I've written his little piece, I've already shown myself to be completely obsessed! - So it won't lower your opinion of my sanity if I put forward another connection between Xenogears and Greek philosophy.

Zeno was the founder of the philosophical movement of Stoicism in about the third century B.C. in the Roman-ruled city of Athens. The stoics were mainly political philosophers, but they did delve into metaphysics (questions of existence) on several occasions. Stoics believed that every individual was a world with himself - and that these individual worlds reflected the greater world of nature. They stated that this world of nature was governed by the inescapable and timeless lore of the Logos --- of which all humans are part. Logos is Greek for reason, language, study or word, but it has also often been used as a substitute for God - as in the start of John's gospel: "There was the world (Logos) and the word was with God and the word was God". This lore of the Logos governed all things and was absolutely inescapable. Nothing happened by accident, all was dictated by the law of the universal reason.

"But what has all this to do with Xenogears?" I hear you ask. Well, the idea of a universal purpose is one central to the plot of Xenogears - all humanity being components of Deus and destined one day to rejoin it. The best examples of people with indelible destinies are Miang, the Contact, the Gazel and of course the antitype. Perhaps in it's original form Xenogears should have been Zenogias - as shamelessly advertised by Cloud during his Mako pensioned freak out in Final Fantasy 7. After all, the person most bound by their destiny in the game is our hero, Fei Fong Wong. Maybe Zenogias means "Zeno's way" or "Zeno's machine" but not having access to a Greek dictionary or a Greek-speaking friend I don't know.

It may be of course, that neither Xenophanes or Zeno were involved in the naming of Xenogears ---- perhaps Xenogears means simply "Alien gear" and refers to Xenogears being external to Deus's plan. It may also be that Xenogears simply sounds good.
